A legal listserve I belong to has been lit up all day in response to a post about seeking legal counsel for the whistle blower. The pro-thUGA lawyers have strangely been less forgiving and understanding towards the memorabilia dealer involved in this incident than they were about those involving Johnny Football, Cam Newton, and ... OJ Simpson.

Here are a few examples of the responses, along with the original email, for your amusement. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. I love jawja fans, especially when they lose!!! It's all so UNFAIR!!! haha

EMERGENCY - Regarding Todd Gurley memorobilia
First, please do not respond with any rude comments if you are a UGA fan. This is a serious matter.

I just got a call from a man who owned a sports memorabilia store, which he sold a about 6 months ago. At the time he owned the store he went to Athens, GA, and met with Todd Gurley. He paid Todd Gurley some money to sign memorabilia. Tonight he is getting 100's of calls from ESPN and radio stations saying that he is a source and they are threatening to print his name and information. Who knows his rights and who knows an attorney that can represent him?

It was a serious matter back when he decided to assist in F...... over Gurley, a kid, in order to make a few bucks. He should have thought about how serious it was for everyone then. Now.... he's just been caught. No sympathy for the F..... . Tell him to face the heat like Gurley is having to. Hope he enjoyed the tens of dollars he made. Let me tell you for whom this matter is serious - GURLEY, who just lost any chance at the Heisman, thanks in part to this guy you are talking about who is scared of a few microphones and his 15 minutes of notorious fame. I agree that Gurley's not the bad guy. He's just incredibly, incredibly gullible and naive, with a little spicing of shortsightedness thrown on top. Maybe he never thought he would be in the Heisman race so that he didn't know that he would be risking his chance at that award if the SCUMBAG dealer he was meeting turned out to be the most evil, swarmy, greasy, low life, shit bag ever. I can't wait for the bastard to be outed.

Agreed. Nobody should feel bad for this guy. Did Gurley break the rules? Yes. That's on him. Did this guy take advantage of him and then report him after financially gaining from said violation? Yes. The guy emailed a couple of outlets back in September trying to peddle the violation as a story for someone to "leak", so, to say that he didn't put himself in this position is a bit laughable.

You have to play the NCAA game. Suspend, investigate, and reinstate (roughly in that order). Auburn played that game as well as anyone has, in part because they have a former NCAA operative in charge, the allegations were bogus, and they had already thoroughly investigated and refuted them. But they didn't flip the proverbial bird to the NCAA; that would have been foolish and virtually suicidal.

If there are very public accusations that turn out to be patently false or done for publicity purposes, it's open season on the accuser and they need to face consquences. See Duke lacrosse. I'm sure those players don't have any problem with being falsely accused.

bammer is the case study for this course of action. zero penalties incurred to date. They have never even had to proceed to the step of openly defying sanctions. The NCAA chickens out at stage 1 and just takes their word that the AD investigation uncovered no wrongdoing. Meanwhile, you can bet the threats of legal action are flying behind the scenes.

Yep. For about 15 years straight or so they were on some kind of probation or in the repeat offender window.
Cooperating is essentially what provided the NCAA with the ammo to sanction them. Non-cooperation and denial have yielded much better results since $aban arrived.
