Heard something very interesting in reference to Borland's decision to retire this morning. An attorney caller to an ATL sports radio program said Borland's real motivation was information the NFL recently presented to all players showing that CTE is the product of recurrent violent trauma (sub-concussive events) and NOT concussions. Players cannot discuss these findings publicly because the NFL required them to sign a non-disclosure agreement. The caller said that is what prompted Borland's decision. Just a random caller, sure, but keep in mind that the ongoing federal court litigation against the NFL is in Atlanta. Also, the assertion has inherent plausibility because any such studies would also be consistent with the research being done at Boston University.
This is incredibly explosive, if true. Awareness about the link between CTE and playing football is already mainstream, prompting lots of parents to hold their kids out of football. The NFL is currently trying to sell a two-fold lie to the public to keep their supply chain of players: (a) that CTE is from concussions and (b) that correct form tackling will prevent concussions (and CTE).
When the results of the studies refuting this marketing campaign/lie become well known, the NFL is going to have a serious supply side problem for the continued existence of their sport. May take a decade or more but I think it's something they are genuinely concerned about, as was revealed in the PBS documentary (discussed above).
Then they asked him if he was involved in the case..."no"... Source of information?...click
