I'm still scratching my head at that last call. Rolling Ryan to the short side of the field with maybe two options at best. Even worse was the Eagles players are saying they knew what the Falcons were going to run when they lined up in that formation. Quinn doesn't take control in games unless it's burning timeouts and going into horrible plays or challenging everything that doesn't work.
I don't care how good the Eagles defense was. Coleman was getting chunks of yards and they never let him get going. It's like one thing starts working and the Falcons go away from it as fast as possible. Getting two positive running plays going isn't going to magically create some 8 man box that's all going to bite on play action and let Julio magically run free but man we're going to believe it.
Just venting because that was a crappy game to end the season.
Some discussion with Dan Reeves on radio this morning, that with Julio practicing less into the season due to “dinged up” timing with Matt has been affected.
....look back to bammer days. He’s always had a handful of drops.
Can be a really good player, but think the “great” label is turning into a reach.
What he did in the Super Bowl alone last year makes him a great player.
I'm with Dan in that missing all that practice does have an impact on his and Ryan's on the field relationship. Julio also takes himself out of the game constantly . I'll be curious to see how banged up he really was going into the off season.
Watching the Patriots last night and the Steelers today, it's an easy reminder as to how bad Atlanta's guards and o-line play in general was. Brady and Ben have literally seconds to make reads and go through their progressions. Ryan gets the snap out of the gun, has to have the back in as a blocker and not a safety valve if the play doesn't work, and has 2-3 seconds at most to get the ball out of there. If Ryan's pocket does collapse, it gets destroyed. If Big Ben gets pressure, he can just step into it and still have another second or two to launch it. I think Atlanta went deep over 25 yards twice and once was that horrible duck that Julio had to bat down from being picked off because Ryan isn't planting and getting juice on it.
This was almost the exact same team as last year and they regressed not back to reality but into a sloppy offensive team. I don't have much faith that this was a learning curve thing like the first year with Shanahan and more that Sark is in over his head.
