Now, gather ‘round FC brethren, we’ve covered a lot a-ground together through the years. We’ve talked about David and Goliath, and Moses, and more.
We’ve had some good days and bad days and some strange days.
These are the odd days. We’ve endured the Potato Famine, yet our souls are not settled. We face a great battle yet we don’t know if we have enough to win.
Children, we do. How do I know? I go to the Word.
Many years ago, a young man who worked in a barn — an early day Barner as it were — was anguished that he and his family were best by the Midianites, whose sons and daughters would become bammerites.
The young man, full of wonder and strength and yet fear, was named GideAUn.
The Lord wanted him to battle the Midianites but GideAUn wasn’t so sure.
“We don’t have enough men,” he said. “Our flanks couldn’t fight for a D-3 army. Our lines are weak. The talent gap is too great.”
The Lord knew of the weaknesses but He had a higher purpose — to declare His glory and smite the evil Midianites.
“If you gave me a few years, a hundred men, and unlimited NIL tithes, we can win this fight,” GideAUn said.
But the Lord refused GideAUn’s entreaties.
“You do not need a few years, 100 men and unlimited NIL,” the Lord told GideAUn. “Go into your closet and pray and return to me with your request.”
After hours of meditation and prayer, GideAUn returned and asked for one year, 75 men, and $1,000,000 in NIL.
“No, my son,” the Lord told GideAUn. “First, you must ask for faith and be willing to receive it, then ask in faith for your true need.”
GideAUn retreated again, imploring for faith and wisdom. After hours of prayer, he returned full of faith.
“Do you know what you truly need?” the Lord asked GideAUn.
“I need 11 men of faith and valor to play offense and 11 men of faith and valor to play defense. And I need a couple of kickers, a holder and a long snapper.”
The Lord nodded, pleased with GideAUn’s answer.
“Anything else, my servant?” the Lord asked.
“Yes, Lord, one more thing,” said GideAUn.
The Lord asked, “what shall it be?”
Said GideAUn, “Sixty minutes.”
War Eagle.
