Mourning hotties, as I have a rather sad story to tell.

This breaks my heart. For the purposes of this story, all allegations are presumed true, as it didn't happen to me, but to one of wifey's co-workers as told directly to me yesterday on the annual "I'll get my husband to help get my 3rd grade classroom ready for the new school year" work day.

Wifey teaches at Arbor Station Elementary School in Douglasville GA. She has a co-worker, Ms Tracey Pirkle, who although a West GA grad, had the oldest daughter go to UGA who ended up on the dance team. They are completely UGA, thru and thru. Last year, came time for the youngest daughter, a HS senior, to figure out where they wanted to go to school, to study nursing. They took a tour to Auburn and other places, and while the parents, who prolly wore UGA stuff to the actual tour kept a somewhat open mind, the kid fell in love with Auburn. Loved the campus, loved the program, and the family can figure the money out. The parents made their peace with it. The kid applied, with supposedly a 4.0 GPA and was allegedly DEFERRED by AU from a Fall 23 decision to a Spring 24 decision. The kid was devastated. Not wanting to get the last apartment or the last roommate, the kid applied to her backup school, and is moving to TUSCALOOSA in two weeks time. The kid did have the option to send in her mid-terms grades to AU, but she figured another 4.0 wasn't going to move the needle, so she didn't even bother. The parent's will wish their kid well, but will never be bamers.

Look, I don't know how the place is run, or what all goes into an admission, and maybe the "Nursing School", which didn't even exist when I was a student all those years ago had some say in the admission process. But this is the story I got yesterday. The parent's are now "so over Auburn" and the kid is excited to be going to bamer. Hearing this story makes me feel like an opportunity missed. Parents who hate Auburn more than they did before, and a student enrolling at bamer whose destiny is not yet revealed.

it amazes me the stories like this - seems like lots of super bright kids are getting hosed. I suspect she woulda had similar “wait listed” issues occur at UGA as their admissions standards seem to be even more ridiculous than AU. We know as a number of folks who had strong GPAs like this and got waitlisted at UGA.

I know that UGA takes a strong view to the "demographics" of a particular population.

A few thoughts ...

uat accepts about 2,000-2,500 more students each year (almost all out of state) over Auburn. It has borrowed and built its way to a nearly 40,000 student enrollment. Auburn is a little over 30k.

Auburn puts a great deal of emphasis on test scores over GPAs as it consider them to be more objective than class work.

Short version, it's not the "H' days in anymore. It's incredibly competitive. But uat has created a unique business model.
